ILC Mission Statement
In support of the District 117 mission, the Information and Learning Center program aims to empower students to be enthusiastic readers, critical thinkers, skillful researchers, ethical users and creators of information, and innovative members of the digital landscape through direct instruction with students, collaboration with staff, and a comprehensive program that provides a variety of services and resources.
Visit the first floor ILC
The ILC welcomes you to the first floor during your study hall.
If you just need to stop in quickly to print something or check out a book, please get a pass from your teacher or study hall teacher (this includes students in the Commons, too) and arrive either within the first few minutes of the period or shortly before the period ends.
Other than that, please keep in mind these common courtesies. Ms. Mueller, Mrs. Burton, and your classmates would appreciate it:

- Please visit the first floor ILC to check out a book, to read, to work silently on school work.
- We like our floor plan so no need to rearrange any furniture, please. The only time we like to see furniture move is when you push in your chair.
- If you need to use the bathroom or go to your locker, no problem. Please just write a pass in your student handbook and then sign out with Ms. Mueller and Mrs Burton.
ILC materials
The ILC's print collection consists of fiction, non-fiction, professional resources, audiobooks, DVDs, and periodicals, all of which are available to be checked out by both students and staff. Students may check out up to five ILC materials at a time for two weeks; Kindles may be checked out for three weeks. Teachers may check out A/V equipment, such as video cameras and tripods, for their students to use at school or at home at the teacher's discretion. Overdue notices will be emailed to students. After the sixth week of not returning or renewing checked-out materials, the ILC will send a written and/or email notice to the student that he or she will be billed for the material. Subsequent notices and parent notification may follow.
When the librarian selects materials for the ILC print collection, their objective is to fulfill the ILC mission by providing students with access to a wide range of information resources that support learning and appeal to personal interests. The librarian follows the Collection Management Procedure, which highlights the selection, de-selection, and objections to material guidelines. The Collection Management Procedure is aligned with the district goal of igniting passion and discovery in every student, and the American Library Association's best practices for collection development.
