We celebrate Native American Heritage Month during the month of November. During this month we recognize and celebrate the important contributions that Native Americans have made. As part of that recognition we must also remember that we learn, live, and play on land that was the original home land to many Native Americans. Lakes Community High School sits on land that was the home to Kikapoo, Peoria, Potawatomi, Myaamia(Miami), and Očhéthi Šakówiŋ(Sioux) people. A great way to celebrate Native American Heritage Month is by reading books by Native American authors and about Native American characters. These books are great reads all year around, and features everything from fantasy novels, to romances, and great non-fiction titles.
